Chapter 4

Chapter 4    In this chapter, we have a lot more character interaction as well as character definition through dialogue which is always nice to see especially after how heavy the world-building is in this book. In this chapter, we get to take a deeper dive into Henry Foster in particular with his thought process regarding his inferiority complex about his size, I found it quite fascinating that he seems to treat those of lower class standing with particular wrath as he sees himself in them and as he hates himself he by proxy hates them. Henry honestly seems to fit our society definition of an incel to a T, for those of you who do not know, Wikipedia's definition is as follows, “Incels, a portmanteau of "involuntary celibates", are members of an online subculture who define themselves as unable to find a romantic or sexual partner despite desiring one. Discussions in incel forums are often characterized by resentment, misogyny, misanthropy, self-pity and self-loathing, rac...

Chapter #3

This book seems more like a 10,000 piece puzzle than the more conventional stories that seem like a long tapestry that you have to walk along to see the whole thing. I cannot wait to finish putting the pieces together as I can tell the catharsis of learning how the society of this world works is going to be amazing however until that point it is proving to be quite the struggle to figure out what each tidbit of information means, the anthropologist in me is bursting at the seams with ideas of what each line could imply! In this chapter we are introduced to what I believe are two characters who I believe are very strong contenders to be the protagonists of the story, Henry Foster and Lenina Crowne. Henry seems to chafe under the society that he currently lives in even though he is part of the highest rank of people, an Alpha, he seems to have a notable distaste for how sex, sexuality, and pseudo polygamy are treated in this culture as well as being somewhat of a loner but he has g...

Chapter 2

This chapter seems to be where we get to know how the children of this world are raised and how sex, child-rearing, and sexuality are treated. A notable new character in this chapter who I will personally keep a lookout for going into the future appeared, Mustapha Mond. Mustapha seems to be one of the highest authorities of this society as it is said in this chapter that there are only 9 other people with his job and rank in the world, that being the Controller. Mustapha seems to be a rather calculating person who, while not unkind or unwilling to educate those who he sees fit, does have the demeanor of somebody who is not to be trifled with. He interestingly enough seems to have access to ancient banned texts such as the Christian Bible and different poetry and history books. A major world-building detail is that the knowledge of history has been almost unilaterally destroyed so there is most likely going to be a lot of internal strife when knowledge of what ...

Chapter 1

This blog will mostly be focusing on characters, how they interact, and how they evolve over time. I hope you will join me in learning about the world and characters of the novel by Aldous Huxley called “Brave new world”.  The first chapter of this book seems to be mainly setting up the theme and atmosphere for the rest of the story while doing a great deal of world-building so as of yet there are no characters which we can clearly point to and say “yes that one is going to be the protagonist” or “that one has to be the antagonist” but there is still a decent amount of conjecture that can be made about the general attitude of the characters at large in this chapter. There are three characters of note in this chapter, the instructor, the student, and the technician. All three of these characters seem to be part of the uppermost class or caste of humans, the alpha’s, who seem to be those who are allowed to become the intellectuals and leaders of this society. The instructor spends ...
