Chapter #3
This book seems more like a 10,000 piece puzzle than the more conventional stories that seem like a long tapestry that you have to walk along to see the whole thing. I cannot wait to finish putting the pieces together as I can tell the catharsis of learning how the society of this world works is going to be amazing however until that point it is proving to be quite the struggle to figure out what each tidbit of information means, the anthropologist in me is bursting at the seams with ideas of what each line could imply! In this chapter we are introduced to what I believe are two characters who I believe are very strong contenders to be the protagonists of the story, Henry Foster and Lenina Crowne. Henry seems to chafe under the society that he currently lives in even though he is part of the highest rank of people, an Alpha, he seems to have a notable distaste for how sex, sexuality, and pseudo polygamy are treated in this culture as well as being somewhat of a loner but he has gone on multiple dates with Lenina. Lenina Crowne gets the most characterization this chapter as a lot of dialogue is part of a conversation between her and her friend, Lenina seems to like Henry and somewhat seems to share Henry’s distaste for the current culture’s views on the aforementioned subjects however she seems a lot more open to the ideas of this society.
I do admit there might have been some overlap between the details of chapters two and three as I did not hear the audiobook state the change of chapters so a lot of the world-building details might have been swapped between chapters. I ended up rereading the chapters again to get a better idea of what is happening and when due to the aforementioned puzzle-like nature of the narrative, I still might have still gotten some details swapped.
